
New Community Corporation has opened a dedicated subacute unit within its Extended Care Center that is catering to patients who require intense medical supervision, but a shorter period of time in a skilled nursing facility.
The completely refurbished, 30-bed unit boasts all new furniture and is intended for patients staying an average of 20 to 30 days, although it can accommodate patients up to three months when necessary. Patient stays in the unit are covered by Medicare, private-pay and HMOs. read more

New Community To Assist In Safe Surrender Program

New Community’s headquarters—St. Joseph Plaza at 233 West Market Street—will serve as the official judicial processing site for a program that authorities predict will see as many as 3,000 fugitives with open warrants safely surrendering for non-violent offenses ranging from traffic tickets to housing violations.
U.S. Marshal James Plousis said the program, which is really about enhancing public safety, is being funded with $100,000 in federal stimulus dollars. Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow said for fugitives who take advantage of the program and turn themselves in, it will mean “no more looking over your shoulder, no more sleepness nights.” read more
